TOPIC: Combating Crime at NZ Customs
NZ Customs is responsible for protecting New Zealand’s border to stop any dangers, hazards and threats entering our country. As our gatekeepers, they use advanced intelligence-gathering techniques to uncover illegal activity and have unique investigative powers when people cross our border.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
We are delighted to have Bevan Cameron (Customs Technical Specialist) presenting to us about his experience within the Financial Crime Unit of New Zealand Customs.
New Zealand Customs investigators use previous experience, communication skills, perseverance and attention to detail to investigate serious criminal offending at the border. Offending can range from drug smuggling and importing objectionable material to revenue fraud and money laundering. This team works extensively with law enforcement partners and government agencies, both here and overseas to keep harm from New Zealand and its communities and to stop criminal activity.
Bevan is going to be talking to us about his role within the Financial Crime Unit and he will be sharing some really interesting case studies on (1) commercial fraud involving undervaluation of goods using forged documents and (2) a money laundering bulk cash smuggling joint operation involving the Police and Customs.
We look forward to welcoming Bevan on 26 April, for what promises to be a very interesting and informative event.
The event will kick off at 4:30pm with nibbles and networking. Bevan will commence the presentation at 5:00pm and this will conclude at 6:00pm.
